Just hours after landing in Sydney for the Invictus Games, the royal couple announced they were expecting their first child.
Premier Annastacia Palaszcuzk announced she wanted to give the royals a present when they head to Fraser Island on Monday, calling for Queenslanders to make suggestions.
It continues a long tradition of sometimes cringe-worthy presents handed to foreign dignitaries during visits to Australia over the years, which might remind you of a back-of-the-cupboard raid before an office Secret Santa party, like stubby holders, soap and hankies.
"What special gift can we give the new royal baby that typifies Queensland?" Ms Palaszczuk asked in Parliament, prompting MPs to call out suggestions.
"Could it be a Tambo Teddy? Could it be a Maroons jersey? Tambo Teddy, I'm hearing? A Borobi? A bilby perhaps?"
Prince Harry's dad Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were certainly Borobi fans, posing for a photo alongside a statue of the bright blue surfing koala during their trip to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games in April.
Not to be sniffed at, the official mascot of the Commonwealth Games has fetched a pretty penny, with plush Borobi toys - originally retailing at $25 - selling for more than $200 in April on eBay.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be able to flog their gifts online.
According to official rules, gifts are not considered the personal property of the royal family, and they are not allowed to sell or exchange them.
People and organisations are generally advised that extravagant gifts are inappropriate.
But the royals are allowed to eat perishables, and gifts worth less than £150 ($310) can be given to staff or to charity.
On Tuesday morning, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lynn, gave the royal couple their first baby gift in Sydney - a toy kangaroo and baby Ugg boots.
Australians have gifted all kinds of weird and wonderful items to the royals and foreign dignitaries over the years.
In 2015, Prince Harry came back from his Australian visits with two new stubby holders, a beach towel and a crochet poppy.
Prince Charles was the gracious recipient of a pair of secateurs, a CD, tie, a few handkerchiefs, bar of soap, jar of honey and a pen during his visit in November 2015.
His wife Camilla ended up with a pink singlet, books, a boomerang and an embroidered handkerchief.
Foreign politicians have also received goodies, including US president Barack Obama who accepted an iPod loaded with Midnight Oil, Powderfinger and Kylie Minogue from former prime minister Julia Gillard, and was presented with a custom-made surfboard by former PM Tony Abbott.
However, then-Northern Territory chief minister Paul Henderson outdid himself in 2011 by giving Mr Obama a $50,000 insurance policy in case he was attacked by a crocodile during his visit.
Meanwhile, Ms Palaszczuk said she had also arranged for Prince Harry and Meghan to meet with Hervey Bay paramedics who fulfilled a palliative care patient's wish of seeing the ocean for the last time.
"Their act of kindness in transporting a dying woman to look at the ocean one last time typifies our Queensland spirit of looking after each other," she said.
