Parliament resumed on Tuesday after an 89-day break and Mr Costigan was due to spend his first days on the crossbench as an independent.

The backbencher was kicked out of the party earlier this month following allegations of "disgusting behaviour" towards an 18-year-old, which he strenuously denied.

Speaker Curtis Pitt said he had received a notification from Mr Costigan that he would be absent this week, which complied with Parliament rules.

Mr Costigan also officially lost his spot on the Innovation, Tourism Development and Environment Committee on Tuesday morning, which is allocated to a member of the LNP.

It means Mr Costigan will take a $24,000 pay cut.

Member for Theodore Mark Boothman will take his place.

Mr Costigan was suspended from the LNP following a complaint he harassed a young woman, posing for photos with her, with the 18-year-old telling her mother she clutched a duress alarm in her handbag during the incident.

Mr Costigan described the allegations as baseless and a "stitch-up".

"Nothing bad happened, nothing sinister happened," he said.

"She didn't look anything in terms of intimidation or concern or worry."

A second complaint, by a 20-year-old woman about an alleged incident when she was 19, came shortly after the first complaint and was forwarded to the LNP's disputes committee for investigation.

Announcing the LNP state executive's decision to expel Mr Costigan, Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington called on Mr Costigan to resign his seat rather than join the crossbench.

Mr Costigan has hinted at plans to contest the 2020 state election and has been busy taking pot shots on Twitter, including describing Ms Frecklington as a "seat warmer" and complaining about state and federal governments' actions on roads.

Attempts were made to reach Mr Costigan for comment.

This week, the Palaszczuk government will introduce its child killer laws, while there will be debate on revenge porn and the waste levy bills.
