More than one in three public sector workers said they were overloaded with work, while almost three in 10 said they felt burnt out, in the Queensland government's latest employee survey.

One in four workers said their work had a negative impact on their health, and almost half said there was too much red tape at work.

Disturbingly, 28 per cent said they had witnessed bullying or sexual harassment in the workplace in the past 12 months.

In the past year, 17 per cent said they were bullied, with the most common culprit a fellow worker, with behaviour including verbal abuse and "initiations".

Out of the 1 per cent of respondents who said they were sexually harassed, conduct included remarks of a sexual nature and unwanted physical intimacy, and 69 per cent said they did not report the sexual harassment.

About one in 10 said they intended to leave their organisation within the next 12 months, with career opportunities, workplace culture, professional development and stress/health the top reasons for wanting to go.

The results have been slammed by the state opposition, which called on the government to do more.

LNP Industrial Relations spokesman Jarrod Bleijie said any form of bullying or sexual harassment was a major concern.

"This report shows that Labor is all talk and no action when it comes to looking after workers," he said.

The LNP lodged an RTI for the latest Working for Queensland survey on May 18.

The results of the survey were then published online later that day.

Public Service Commission chief executive Robert Setter said the public sector was committed to the health and wellbeing of employees.

"[The] results tell us that overload and burnout are less prevalent in the sector than they have been in past years," he said.

"The proportion of people who say they are overloaded with work has decreased by 2 percentage points since 2015."

Mr Setter said there were various initiatives to improve health and increase work-life balance, and in conjunction with National Flexible Work Day next month, a campaign will be delivered across the sector to encourage employees and managers to talk about flexible work arrangements.

Mr Setter said the proportion of people who said they had seen bullying and sexual harassment had decreased by 5 percentage points since 2015, with workshops on acceptable management action delivered to more than 1000 workplace leaders and HR workers last year.

"Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated in Queensland public sector workplaces," he said.

Mr Setter said the commission advocated flattening organisational hierarchies to tackle red tape.

Queensland public servants were feeling more secure about their jobs than they were in the year following the LNP Newman government.

The Newman government axed 14,000 public service jobs over its term.

In 2015, during the first year of the Palaszczuk government, 49 per cent of workers said they felt their job was secure.

Three years later, that number jumped to 58 per cent.

Positive aspects to the survey included three in five workers saying the workplace culture supported people to achieve a good work/ life balance, half thought senior leaders considered the wellbeing of employees to be important and 71 per cent said they had the tools to do their job effectively.

More than half took advantage of flexible work arrangements, such as "flexitime", starting early or late, part time work and telecommuting.

The 2017 Working for Queensland survey had a response rate of 49 per cent across 62 agencies, with 82,206 returned surveys, and was conducted from late July to mid-August 2017, but data from school-based employees was yet to be included.
