Motorists have called for tolls to be cheaper and discounts to be considered for pensioners, as part of a parliamentary inquiry into the operation of toll roads in Queensland.

More than 50 submissions have already been published, with most people arguing tolls should be cheaper.
In his submission, Christopher Lynch said the current prices were too high and discounts should be offered for regular users, while cheaper off-peak fees would be helpful.
"I am more than happy to pay for these tunnels but the exorbitant cost defeats the purpose of trying to ease congestion," he said.
Peter Jackson also supported off-peak pricing.
"So the Clem7 might be $1 on a Sunday morning ... There is no justification for the same price throughout the day. The toll road operates [sic] would then get $1 instead of zero because they definitely wouldn't get $5," he said.
Richard also complained toll roads were too expensive.
"If tolls were cheap I would use them daily but it is not worth $10-plus per day for a return trip to work on top of the extremely high fuel price," he said.
Andy said toll prices should reflect distance travelled, rather than a fixed price, and frequent users should get discounts.
Monty Woodbridge suggested a 50 to 60 per cent discount for aged pensioners.
Sheila Watson said drivers from Brisbane's southside and Logan had taken the brunt of tolls.
Ian Smith said tolls could be cut by 50 per cent for a month, with the state government to underwrite it, to experiment with whether it increased usage.
Geoff Wilson said the cost of tolls in Brisbane were "way too high" and also took the opportunity to take aim at parking at hospitals and the airport.
"The cost of food at airports Australia wide is also a travesty. I worked in five different airlines for 43 years so know what I am talking about. There should be an inquiry into this also," he said.
But it seems unlikely drivers will get cheaper tolls any time soon.
The inquiry has previously heard Transurban would be entitled to taxpayer-funded compensation if the state government asked for tolls to be lowered.
Transurban Queensland group executive Sue Johnson said the government sold south-east Queensland's toll roads four years ago for more than $7 billion.
"One of the most significant factors that we considered was the toll price of the day and that had been set and was set by the government," she said.
Ms Johnson said Transurban could look at options, but also had obligations to bank lenders and shareholders.
"There is nothing at this point other than obviously working with the toll that was set by the government," she said.
