Every year, LNP members get together at the state convention so its leaders can rally the troops and branch members can be heard in return.

Resolutions are submitted by party units, such as the Young LNP, state electorate councils (SEC) and LNP Women, for debate.

The state convention sets party policy, while resolutions that pass are referred to the parliamentary team for consideration as possible future government policy.

The first resolution off the rank on Saturday will be about the Adani coal mine, which would encourage the federal government to fund, own and operate - through the Australian Rail Track Corporation - the proposed rail line between Abbot Point and the Galilee Basin.

Adani had applied for an almost $1 billion concessional loan to the federal government's Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility to build the rail line, which would link its coal mine to the port, but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk vetoed it.

Abortion will be on the agenda, with the Toowoomba North state electorate council proposing the convention reject any future attempts to change existing abortion legislation in Queensland.

Labor has committed to introducing a bill to reform abortion during this term, with a Law Reform Commission report on the issue expected to be released publicly, and tabled in the Queensland Parliament, by October.

Labor's MPs will be given a conscience vote on abortion, while the LNP is waiting on a proposed bill before making a decision.

Euthanasia will be debated at convention, with a call to oppose any form of euthanasia or assisted dying legislation.

Religion will make a few appearances, with one resolution to call on all LNP MPs to ensure there are no impediments to Christian celebrations, such as Christmas and Easter.

Another asks a future state LNP government and the federal coalition government to ensure protections for freedom of religion, conscience and speech are recognised in policy and as a legislative principle in drafting laws.

The Hinchinbrook SEC would like the convention to call on an incoming LNP state government to reintroduce optional preferential voting for state elections.

Labor introduced compulsory preferential voting in 2016, meaning voters had to number every box at the 2017 state election.

The Cooper SEC would like the current Labour Day in May to be moved back to October and the Queen's Birthday public holiday to be celebrated in June.

In 2016, the Palaszczuk government reinstated Labour Day's traditional date in May, reversing changes made under the Newman government, which had argued it spread out the state's public holidays across the year.

The public service gets a mention, with the Metro West Region hoping the state opposition will develop an ongoing LNP policy on the public service, including what reforms are needed, and put it on the election agenda.

The Young LNP wants the federal government to review Australia's privacy laws, in light of the Cambridge Analytical scandal, to "ensure that our personal data is protected".

The Young LNP would also like a future LNP state government to abolish payroll tax.

The Broadwater SEC wants the state opposition to "fight for the rights of individuals or organisations without exception" to donate to political parties.

Labor has passed laws banning property developers from donating to political parties in Queensland.

The Ninderry SEC would like a future LNP government to review the structure, function and operation of TransLink to improve its customer focus, service responsiveness and efficiency.

LNP president Gary Spence and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will address the LNP convention at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Saturday, while LNP leader Deb Frecklington and Brisbane lord mayor Graham Quirk will speak on Sunday.
