The independent statutory body was announced under Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe's local government legislation changes in May, following ongoing corruption allegations peppering several Queensland councils.

More than 150 formal complaints about Queensland local councillors were made in 2017-2018.

Twenty-two of those complaints were about alleged corrupt conduct and were referred to the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Job adverts for the new tribunal went live on Friday, calling for both a Tribunal President and casual tribunal members.

The president is required to have legal qualifications and extensive experience in judicial proceedings in courts and tribunals.

Tribunal members are required to have a broad knowledge of local government, investigations, law, public administration and public-sector ethics.

Serving councillors, council nominees, council employees, MPs and political party members, and convicted criminals cannot be members of the tribunal.

Under the new legislation, the tribunal's role includes "investigating the suspected inappropriate conduct of a councillor referred to the local government by the assessor and making recommendations to the local government about dealing with the conduct".

The tribunal will also be required to conduct hearings into any allegations of misconduct, and decide on actions to be taken.

The new body will comprise a president and a "pool" of casual members, The president will earn $325 per meeting, while tribunal members will get $250 per meeting.

Tribunal members will serve four-year terms.

The president will be appointed before January 1, 2019, on a permanent full-time basis for four months to establish the tribunal's framework and protocols before casual members join the tribunal in January.
