Days into a crisis that has brought some growers to their knees, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk denounced copycats as worse than the original perpetrators of the "despicable crime".

The crisis began on Sunday, after a Queensland man ate a strawberry with a needle inside, followed by cases reported in Victoria.

Ms Palaszczuk said copycat and fake reports were making an already difficult situation worse.

"The people copying this crime are in many ways worse than those who started it," she said.

"A crime scene on a very small number of farms affecting only a small number of products has spread to an entire industry.

"Police resources are wasted on false alarms."

On Tuesday, chief health officer Jeannette Young confirmed a report was received of a schoolgirl biting into a strawberry containing a needle. But it was revealed as a hoax.

Ms Palaszczuk said the person responsible for tampering with strawberries could face a charge of intending to cause grievous bodily harm, which carried a 10-year jail term.

On Wednesday morning, the federal government matched the state government's pledge of $1 million to support strawberry farmers, promote consumer confidence and investigate how to improve traceability and integrity in the supply chain.

Ms Palaszczuk urged people to call Crime Stoppers or Policelink with any information about the crime.

"Someone out there knows something. You can make your call anonymous, we don't care, as long as we catch those responsible," she said.

"In times of crisis, Queensland comes together. We've seen it in floods, we're seeing it in the drought, and we'll show it to our strawberry growers."

The government approved a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Ms Palaszczuk suggested this Sunday could be called "Strawberry Sunday" and people could share strawberry recipes.

"That way we can say to whoever is behind this - you won't win," she said.
