Mr Mander was criticising Ms Trad for her management of the state's economy, accusing her of downplaying a recent CommSec report.

"After hearing the Treasurer's ministerial statement this morning, I can't think of anybody else, any other title to call her other than the Comical Ali of the Queensland Parliament," Mr Mander said.

Iraq's former information minister Mohammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, known as "Comical Ali", kept broadcasting until the last minute while Baghdad was being destroyed around him during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

"Despite bombs blowing up, dropped by American jets around them, despite having tanks rolling into the streets of Baghdad, despite behind him while he is having an interview the statue of Saddam Hussein falling over, said there's nothing to see here," Mr Mander said.

"Despite everything that was going on at that comical stage of the Gulf War, things going around him and the minister for propaganda saying otherwise, we have a Treasurer who is ignoring the metaphorical bombs that are going on around her in the economic sense."

Ms Trad immediately raised a point of order in the Parliament.

"I found the contribution from the member for Everton (Tim Mander) deeply, deeply alarming and personally offensive," she said.

"To compare me to a Middle Eastern dictator, Saddam Hussein, is something that should not be in this chamber, Mr Deputy Speaker.

"If those in the opposition want to talk about trends then let me talk about all of the racist trends and comments opposite."

Ms Trad said she would write to Speaker Curtis Pitt.

"This is an appalling standard," she said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described Mr Mander's comments as "appalling".

"I think it is highly inappropriate, it's offensive and he should apologise," she said.

Ms Trad said LNP leader Deb Frecklington should call for Mr Mander's resignation.

"There are so many other references that Tim Mander could have thought of to make his point but he chose a racially-based reference in relation to my performance," she said.

"This is not the first time this has happened in the Queensland Parliament and it's time for it to stop - we have children looking at our behaviour and the things that we say, we have members of the community looking at the things that we say.

"If this is the new standard in the Queensland Parliament then I think everyone should feel ashamed."

However, Mr Mander criticised what he described as Labor's "mock outrage".

"I compared Jackie Trad's commentary on the state of Queensland's stagnating economy to the ridiculous statements made by Comical Ali," he said.

"Queensland has the highest unemployment rate in the country, plummeting business confidence and flatlining domestic growth, meanwhile Jackie Trad keeps telling Queenslanders they have never had it so good."

Mr Mander accused the government of hypocrisy, given Labor member for Woodridge Cameron Dick likened Ms Frecklington to a North Korean dictator earlier this year.

The Treasurer and Deputy Premier, who is of Lebanese heritage, has previously been called "Jihad Jackie" by members of the opposition.

In 2012, LNP member Ray Stevens referred to Ms Trad as "Jihad Jackie" during heated debate about public sector job cuts.

When Ms Trad objected to the slur, then-premier Campbell Newman accused her of having a glass jaw.

But Ms Trad said at the time the comment could feed into a racist stereotype and set a dangerous precedent for the Parliament.

In August this year, LNP MP Mark Robinson called the member for South Brisbane "Jihad Jackie" in a tweet about plans for abortion reform.

She hit back on Twitter, arguing Mr Robinson had resorted to calling her "racist slurs".
