That is according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics' latest Consumer Price Index.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics measures the prices paid by households for a fixed basket of goods and services every quarter.

In the March quarter, the price for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles rose 3.8 per cent on the previous quarter in Brisbane.

Restaurant meals were up 1.7 per cent, while clothing and footwear dropped 2.7 per cent.

New dwelling purchases for owner-occupiers rose 0.8 per cent, while pharmaceutical products rose 6.2 per cent, and beer rose 2.9 per cent.

However, there were falls in the price of electricity, down 4.8 per cent and international holiday travel and accommodation, which fell 3.6 per cent, possibly due to winter off-peak seasons in Europe and America.

The ABS attributed the fall in electricity prices to discounting by energy retailers.

Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said the electricity CPI figures were proof the government's measures were working.

"[The fall] is in stark contrast to a 1.8 per cent increase recorded nationally in the latest Consumer Price Index figures," he said.

"Prices for electricity have now fallen in the last two quarters - the first quarterly falls in electricity prices in Brisbane."

The Queensland government's Affordable Energy Plan includes a two-year cap on electricity price rises to average inflation and a $50 annual rebate over the next two years per household.

Overall in Brisbane, CPI rose by 0.1 per cent last quarter.

ABS chief economist Bruce Hockman said while the annual CPI rose 1.9 per cent, most east coast cities had continued to experience annual inflation above 2 per cent, due in part to the strength in prices related to housing and food.
