Alex Bhathal has told her fellow Greens that she and her family have endured a "nightmare" as attacks from within the party not only destroyed her bid for Federal Parliament but affected her mental health and caused her children to be harassed at school.

Fellow members of the party’s giant Darebin branch gathered in Preston on Sunday to be told there would be no punishment for the Greens who sabotaged their own campaign, triggering months of infighting and accusation that seem to have no end.

The anger within the branch has not subsided as it faces a state election in November, where it will defend the seat of Northcote, and a federal election which might also be held this year.

The saga also looks set for another twist this week when the state Greens hierarchy is expected to move to disband the Batman Campaign Committee before it can push for the expulsion of high-profile members believed to be part of the campaign to undermine Ms Bhathal.

In the aftermath of March’s painful byelection defeat, the party leader Richard Di Natale said there was no alternative but to find the leakers and throw them out of the party.

But the review, set up by Senator Di Natale to get to the bottom of the Batman debacle, recommended no sanctions against anyone for their role in Batman, and instead suggests that administrators be appointed to run the branch for up to two years.

The branch voted on Sunday to continue to elect its own officials in a rejection of the idea of administrators.

In her first meaningful statement since byelection night on March 17, Ms Bhathal told her fellow Greens she had still not been shown, despite three written requests, the now notorious 101-page dossier of complaint against her which was leaked to the media just before the campaign began.

The social worker, who remains the Greens’ endorsed candidate for the seat, says confidentiality rules prevented her defending herself against what she described as “false and prejudicial allegations".

The candidate says she was placed at a “procedural disadvantage” by the position of one of her accusers on the Greens State Council and state executive.

But Ms Bhathal urged her fellow members to stay with the party while telling them of the pain of having the accusations against her aired in the media, including in this newspaper.

“The negative media coverage has unleashed amongst some members of the public strong sentiment against me,” she wrote.

“This continues to affect myself and my children, in the form of bullying against my sons and threats and abuse against me.

“The coverage also appears to be affecting my ability to gain employment. It is affecting the mental health and wellbeing of my children.”

"In this situation where I have little hope of a fair resolution and any end to this kind of misrepresentation, I ask that you please rely on your first-hand knowledge of my behaviour and actions, rather than on others’ accounts."

Ms Bhathal did not respond on Sunday to requests from The Age for comment.

Senator Di Natale’s office was asked on Sunday about the result of the review into the campaign and it referred to the statement published by the party’s state co-convenors last week.

In the statement, co-convenor Rose Read, acknowledged internal strife had been behind the loss in Batman but said she and her colleagues were working to restore normality to the Darebin branch.

“The report also recommended independent management of the Darebin branch with a focus on conflict resolution and good governance," she said.
