But the long-term future of the international games in Canberra is yet to be decided, with the ACT government and Cricket Australia yet to finalise a deal beyond the 2018-19 summer.

The traditional Prime Minister's XI fixture, this year against South Africa, attracted just 1824 people earlier this week and raised red flags for the capital's biggest summer of action.

Manuka Oval will host its first Test when Australia plays against Sri Lanka from February 1, and there will also be a Sheffield Shield clash and two Big Bash games in the city in the coming months.

But Berry believes the lowest attendance in PM's XI history was just a blip on the radar and say the government is still working with Cricket Australia to secure regular content.

Berry also said the drama engulfing the Cricket Australia administration, which led to chairman David Peever quitting this week, would not affect future plans and negotiations.

"...We always keep an eye on things happening with the national organisations of any sport. Our community wants [regular cricket content], so what is the best we can deliver for the community? Canberrans love their sport, I don't think there is a saturation point in the ACT," Berry said.

"I think we're unique compared to the rest of the country. We have a fantastic boutique venue like Manuka and people love going to watch sport there. It's a great spectator's venue.

"The women's cricket as well is going amazingly ... Ellyse Perry and Meg Lanning, they're awesome athletes. As the minister for women as well, people are starting to see how incredible women's sport is."

The government's four-year deal with Cricket Australia expires after the Test at the start of next year.

It's understood the parties are working on a new arrangement, which could encompass all forms of men's and women's cricket for both domestic and international matches.

The allocation of Australian men's fixtures largely depends on which teams they are playing against and how Cricket Australia divide them between the states and territories.

The landmark deal between the government and Cricket Australia, which was extended by one year because of a scheduling clash, has been part of an international sport boom in Canberra in recent years.

The capital has hosted the World Cup rugby league and an Anzac Test, Asian Cup soccer and the Socceroos, the Wallabies, the Australian men's and women's basketball teams, the women's Australian Open golf, Fed Cup tennis and the Australian netball side.

But there is a big gap in the calendar next year, with the Test and the Royal Canberra Classic the only events locked in with international flavours.

Berry said the government would be open to having conversations with basketball, netball or soccer if there were fixtures available in the next 12 months.

Canberra will also host five women's Twenty20 World Cup games at Manuka Oval in February and March in 2020.

"We're always open to those discussions and we've got an open mind to different sports approaching government for joint opportunities. There will be a couple of things happening [next year]," Berry said.

Berry is also hopeful of gaining more clarity on the future of the AIS precinct and some of its major assets in the coming months after speaking with Federal Sports Minister Bridget McKenzie and Sport Australia boss Kate Palmer last month.

The ACT government is still interested an option to buy the federally-owned Canberra Stadium, AIS Arena and AIS pool if Sport Australia downsizes the Bruce campus.

"We've indicated our willingness to continue having conversations with them, and asked to please talk to us before they make decisions. We'd much prefer a conversation about the way forward," Berry said.

"They do want to catch up with us soon and give us a bit more information about the direction they want to take the place."
