In a year where rugby is giving itself daily uppercuts and roundhouse kicks, you don't have to look any further than the Australian Schoolboys team to find out where the problems start.
The ACT's most promising rugby stars snapped a 29-year drought when they knocked over Queensland II to win the national schoolboys rugby championship on Saturday.
Expectations were high that a lot of the players would get the recognition they deserved for finally stopping the New South Wales and Queensland juggernauts, something no team has done since the ACT won the national title way back in 1988.
But just hours after a landmark victory that the group will always remember, the ACT was shafted.
Eleven of the 20-man Australian squad come from NSW, who had two teams play at the national championships with neither side finishing in the top three.
Six come from Queensland, leaving just two players from the championship-winning ACT squad and one from Western Australia to make up the numbers.
This ACT team has defied the odds to win the national title - give them a chance. What more could they have done to earn it? Stop picking the best individuals and pick the best team.
If they are good enough to beat everyone in their path, why are a lot of these players suddenly not fit for a gold jersey?
ACT hooker Lachlan Lonergan and halfback Seamus Smith were named for the Australian schoolboys while Will Goddard, Brendan Jimenez, Lachlan Osborne and Tom Iles were named in the Barbarians team.
That's four players that you'd excuse for feeling hard done by. There's a few more that couldn't have done much more to press their case - the only thing they are guilty of is not wearing a sky blue or red jersey.
