The immediate focus for the Power is Sunday's match against the GWS Giants in Canberra, but all the talk has been about their ground-breaking deal into Asia.

The Power announced on Thursday they would be playing a game in China for premiership points for the next three years.

However, the Power won't be sacrificing one of their home games and AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan says an agreement has been reached with another club.

Hinkley was confident the players wouldn't be affected by playing a game in China.

"With all the planning that goes into those types of events, the leaders of our club take all of those things into account before they make these sort of approaches," Hinkley said.

"They're at the right times and makes the travel as little a factor as it possibly can be.

"It's just a great outcome for our club to be involved in such a big venture overseas."

The most likely scenario is for the match in China to be scheduled either side of the bye weeks for the two clubs involved.

The Power signed a multi-year deal with China-based property developer Shanghai Cred to develop Australian football in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

They will hold annual training camps in Shanghai, have their games broadcast into China and will conduct business events in the country.

Hinkley will worry about that next year as he keeps his attention firmly on the improving Giants.

Having built their list from the ground up in 2012, the Giants have added several experienced players to add a harder edge.

Shane Mumford, Geelong premiership hero Steve Johnson, former Brisbane defender Joel Patfull and Ryan Griffen have complemented the youngsters who have been with the Giants from the start.

"I think there's a bit of a myth they're a young side," Hinkley said.

"They're in their fifth season and if you look at ages and averages this year, they will take the field at least half the season level on age and games experience with any other side they play against.

"The young, inexperienced line doesn't work for me and doesn't work for them anymore.

"I think both of the expansion clubs [GWS and Gold Coast] have moved past it, they're just a normal part of the competition."

Hinkley got a glimpse of the damage the Giants can inflict when they knocked off Geelong by 13 points at Manuka Oval in round two.

Both teams possess potent engine rooms, with Dylan Shiel, Griffen and Callan Ward taking on Port's group featuring Robbie Gray, Travis Boak and Ollie Wines.

"You know how much talent is in their midfield," Hinkley said.

"We're very respectful of them, but we've certainly got enough opportunities in our own midfield to challenge them back.

"It's not going up there trying to stop them - it's about trying to challenge them as much as we can."
