The Giants have built a formidable record in Canberra and the groundswell of support has complemented their rise up the AFL ladder, but changes could be afoot in western Sydney.
Star midfielder Dylan Shiel will meet with Victorian clubs with the Giants' blessing while Rory Lobb has already met with the West Coast Eagles, and is expected to catch up with Fremantle officials in the coming days.
The pair are contracted to the Giants for the 2019 season but the club could look to free up some space in the salary cap with the likes of Josh Kelly and Stephen Coniglio off contract at the end of next year.
The possible departures of Shiel and Lobb would do little to hinder coach Leon Cameron's belief that the Giants are not far off a premiership.
Two major list changes would leave a massive hole but the club would remain well-placed to launch another raid on a maiden flag and build on a nine-match Manuka Oval winning streak in the process.
Giants chief operating officer James Avery says while on-field success is clearly crucial, he believes Canberra fans will continue to fill Manuka Oval regardless of results because of the club's work in the community.
"Being a successful team on-field is the catalyst for a lot of growth," Avery said.
"But it’s pointless unless you’ve got a lot of things going on outside of wins and losses, that help supporters be a part of the club properly and expose the club to people throughout the community.
"We regard as 2018 as a hugely successful year in Canberra for us again. We’re really pleased with the year in Canberra but we’re really committed and focused on continuing to grow our presence in Canberra, and continuing to grow the pretty big footprint we’ve established here, and continuing to be a really strong proposition for families in Canberra.
"That’s a big focus for us, it has been and it will continue to be for a long time."
The Giants are committed to bringing marquee matches to Canberra with their sights set on an Easter Thursday blockbuster in the capital next season.
The club is keen to bring variation to the market with Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton, Sydney, Essendon, Brisbane, and West Coast the only clubs yet to play the Giants for premiership points at Manuka Oval.
The AFL is expected to begin drafting the 2019 fixture in the coming days which will give the Giants are clearer picture about their immediate future in Canberra.
"One thing we have noticed is that people are increasingly turning up for Giants games irrespective of who we’re playing," Avery said.
"Which relates obviously to the Giants being better on-field and being more attractive to watch than we were in our first couple of years in terms of our game style and our success rate.
"Because we’ve forged, in recent years, a pretty formidable record for opponents in Canberra, we’re winning more games than we lose in Canberra.
"Supporters in Canberra have naturally responded to that and are turning up to our games with the first thing in mind being ‘I want to watch the Giants’, as opposed to ‘I want to watch the Giants versus whoever the opponent is’.
"Having said that, we are conscious that we want to bring some strong teams and some variation in terms of opposition in Canberra because it keeps the fixture interesting and it keeps people engaged in the AFL season."
