Anyone that knows the Cooma kid knows nothing will stop him from walking forward and landing blow after blow in the face of adversity.

Thompson will face Queensland’s Alex Hudson for the vacant Pro Muay Thai South Pacific super welterweight title at the Battle on the Border at the SS&A; Club in Albury on Saturday night.

A world championship shot is on the line for the 22-year-old with Monaro Fight Circuit promoter Shane Tipa already locking in a title bout in Canberra on September 15.

It is Thompson's second chance to secure a prized world championship opportunity after he finished on the wrong side of a memorable K1 South Pacific title bout against Nick Martin in June.

But this time he will step outside his comfort zone for a Muay Thai bout - the difference being kickboxing utilises the four-point striking system (punches and kicks) while Muay Thai uses the eight-point striking system (punches, kicks, knees, elbows) and the full clinch.

But mentally and physically, Thompson has never felt better. He is refusing to make the same mistake twice.

"Coming off my last loss, there’s definitely more motivation and push to get that so I can win a world title," Thompson said.

"It makes you a bit determined to train a bit harder and work on things I did wrong, and makes you a better fighter, makes you a stronger fighter.

"I’ve been putting in extra hours just to get this one under my belt. I’ve been coming down at least five days a week. I’ve been training the best I have in a long while actually, I’m feeling strong so it should be interesting.

"I know nothing about him, I’ll just put in 110 per cent and I suppose I’ll find out on Saturday night."

Thompson's work ethic cannot be questioned.

The rising star leaves home in Cooma every morning to work an eight-hour shift as a spray painter, knocks off in the afternoon and drives to Canberra for training four times a week under Peter Foster.

When he isn't making the trip to Canberra for training, he is putting in the work in Cooma - and Foster says he "could not be anymore ready than what he is for this one".

Thompson has been eyeing a world championship shot since the day he followed his brother Charlie into the gym, and he says he is mentally and physically ready to take his chance.

He has fought in Japan, New Zealand and Thailand to make it happen - and his family has been there every step of the way.

"Most of my family are coming down, I think 20-odd people are coming down to watch. They always go everywhere I go, so it’s good to have that support," Thompson said.

"It makes you feel at home wherever you go. I’ve been around a fair bit."
