The Canberra Cavalry is keen to be a part of Baseball Australia's bid to grow the women's game after the sport's governing body started a process to started a national female competition.

Baseball Australia has formed a women's working committee and will work on plans for the next six months before Canberra hosts the Australian women's championships in April.
Cavalry owners Donn McMichael and Dan Amodio were part of a meeting to discuss the potential formation of an Women's Australian Baseball League to sit alongside the men's format.
"We're really interested in taking it forward and having a team play under the Cavalry banner would be fantastic for us," McMichael said.
"It's a matter of looking at the available talent. The women's competition in Canberra at the moment is fairly stable ... we're very keen to initiate something in that space.
"It's really only been mooted over the last six weeks or so, so we haven't had a great deal to put into it at the moment. But certainly if there's an opportunity for us, and we have a side of a sufficient standard and numbers, we'd be interested in doing it."
The men's Cavalry side will start its ABL campaign with a series against the Melbourne Aces in Melbourne from November 15.
McMichael and Amodio have taken the ownership reins this year as part of a new ABL structure and the franchise's home at Narrabundah is being redeveloped to enhance the player and spectator experience.
But there is also a desire to break into the booming women's sport market, which has seen cricket, soccer, basketball, netball and Australian football grow in recent years.
Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale said: "This is an important and necessary step forward for Australian baseball and the growth and success of women's baseball.
"The Baseball Australia strategic plan set last year prioritised women's baseball, and now following this year's women's World Cup the time is right to drive this to the next level.
"The importance of wide-ranging consultation with women at all levels of sport and through business is a key outcome the board of Baseball Australia wants to see before the creation of this league," he said.
"One of the key goals discussed by the board was to ensure the Women's ABL is a sustainable and standalone league in its own right."
Rugby union launched a Super W competition this year and the NRL did the same with a four-week rugby league format.
"It's important to get a women's baseball league up and running, and this could be the vehicle," McMichael said.
"We might be able to attract softballers or other athletes, just like the AFL has done with their women's competition. There might be some cross-pollination."
