The Meteors claimed their first win of the WNCL season to give Allsopp the perfect farewell with a four-wicket win over the Queensland Fire at Allan Border Field on Sunday.

Allsopp is set to leave his post as Meteors head coach and move into the hot seat when he takes the reins as Cricket ACT's chief executive on Tuesday, leaving David Drew in charge of the WNCL outfit.

It means a day after returning home from coaching the Meteors in the opening round, Allsopp will dive into the deep end ahead of Canberra's biggest summer of cricket in history.

"The girls deserve to have someone who can commit to the program. Over the next seven weeks I will definitely be involved in a coaching capacity but this is the last one as head coach for me," Allsopp said.

"With Jono Dean, Stu Karppinen and Mark Higgs around the group, and David Drew and Michael Barrington there on a full-time capacity, the girls have got everything they need to keep playing good cricket.

"I’ll keep supporting them and be around when I can, I’ll certainly be there for the home fixtures at Manuka but David Drew will do exceptional job. He’s an excellent coach in his own right and he deserves the opportunity to put his own spin on it."

Allsopp signed off as head coach by overseeing a "first class" bowling and fielding effort - although he concedes "we probably made life a little bit hard for us" with the bat.

Erin Osborne's stellar showing with the ball (3-21 from 10 overs) sparked a middle order collapse that saw Queensland lose five wickets for a paltry five runs and stumble to 7-89.

But the Fire's tail wagged with No. 10 batter Jemma Barsby scoring a spirited 44 before holing out in the final over as Queensland posted 184.

Two days after dishing up an effort Allsopp deemed not up to scratch, the Meteors gritted their teeth and clawed their way to victory thanks largely to Katie Mack (46) and Angela Reakes (44 not out).

"Queensland are a really good side, they beat NSW [on Friday] so they were always going to be really hard to beat," Allsopp said.

"Our girls fought really hard so we go away from this trip back on level terms with everyone else. It’s a really open competition, with NSW losing [on Friday], it’s up for grabs at the moment."

The Meteors squad will now break apart to play premier cricket before their WNCL campaign resumes at Manuka Oval on November 9.

The ACT will host Victoria in their opening game of the round before facing Western Australia two days later - after which the squad will again split up for premier and Women's Big Bash League commitments until February.

Anna Lanning is almost certain to return for the next round while Nicola Hancock could also come into the frame which will give Drew a full-strength side to pick from for his initiation as head coach.
