After Azhar Ali edged a ball from Peter Siddle past gully, he and Asad Shafiq stopped running and started chatting mid-pitch, assuming the ball had reached the boundary for four runs.
But unbeknownst to the pair, the ball had stopped less than a metre short of the rope, allowing Mitch Starc to field it and effect a run-out before either batsman realised what had happened.
The lucky wicket sent Ali packing on 64 runs, but with his side still leading by 300 runs.
