The 200-run milestone was something he had never ticked off before, so to make sure he didn't play any rash shots and lose his wicket, the Weston Creek Molonglo batsman decided he would count every last run until he got there.

It seemed simple enough, he was on about 180 at the time. Sure enough, it only took a few runs for him to lose count - from then on he had to rely on the cheers of his teammates.

And what a sweet feeling it was to hear the roar coming from the boundary at Stirling Oval.

Trickett blasted the second highest score in Weston Creek Molonglo history to help them get one hand on first innings points against ANU in the Cricket ACT Douglas Cup on Saturday.

The opening batsman raced to 226 not out from just 244 deliveries, finding the rope 32 times and clearing it once, but he wasn't alone.

Tom Atallah chipped in with a lazy 126 (165) in a 266-run stand for the second wicket to push Creek to the sixth-highest total the club has ever produced in first grade.

"That was my first one, I got 150 earlier in the year, but that was the first time I’ve ever hit a double ton," Trickett said.

"I was on about 180 at drinks in the last session and I tried to count, but I lost count so hearing the boys cheer was pretty cool.

"I’ve just been trying to focus a little bit more when I’m batting. In the past, when I’ve got to about 50 or 60 I’ve just lost concentration. I’ve just been trying to concentrate more and see how we go.

"It was a pretty good day. Everything seemed to go quite well, it was a good partnership with Tom Atallah, that probably kept me going for a while."

Creek skipper John Rogers decided he had seen more than enough when he declared at 3-447 after 83 overs, forcing ANU to navigate their way through a tricky period before stumps.

Rogers' declaration proved a masterstroke after Harry Medhurst and Djali Bloomfield sent ANU openers Ben Smart and Simon Stolcman packing to leave the visitors reeling at 2-0, before they added a further 36 runs without loss.

To say ANU face a long road back would be an understatement.

"Djali and Harry bowled really well, it’s a good start for our bowling and hopefully we can continue next week," Trickett said.

Meanwhile, Eastlake are in the box seat to secure first innings points after skittling North Canberra-Gungahlin for 175 on day one at Kingston Oval.

Nikhil Mathai (4-29) was superb with the ball before Sam Gunning (38 not out) and Adam Tett (18 not out) helped Eastlake to 2-87 at stumps.

Ginninderra quick Michael Ninneman's five-wicket haul (5-66) was countered by Craig Devoy's spirited 77 as Tuggeranong posted 9-309 against the Tigers at Kippax Oval.

Matt Condon and Ethan Bartlett both notched up half-centuries for Western District-UC in their clash with Queanbeyan at Jamison Oval.
