But his double life is set to overlap next week when the Merici College school teacher deserts the classroom and pulls on his Tuggeranong Valley uniform in search of national Twenty20 glory.

Tuggeranong sit on the cusp of an outright victory over North Canberra-Gungahlin heading into day two of their Cricket ACT Douglas Cup clash at Harrison Oval on Saturday.

But Devoy will have one eye on knocking over the best short format outfits in the country in the first National Premier Twenty20 championships beginning at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval on Tuesday.

He was locked into work mode until late on Friday planning lessons for the days he will be away, hunting down the prize Tuggeranong earned a crack at by winning the Cricket ACT Twenty20 title in January.

In their way stand Carlton, Dandenong (Victoria), City Cyclones (Northern Territory), East Torrens (South Australia), Melville (Western Australia), North Hobart (Tasmania), Sutherland, Sydney University (NSW), and University of Queensland (Queensland).

"Our best at their best are as good as any other club cricketer around the country," Devoy said.

"The challenge for us is there may be a perception that the standard of their competition is higher week in, week out. For us, we might not have the same level of challenge every week. Those challenges are going to come pretty thick and fast next Tuesday and Wednesday.

"There’s a number of guys in our side who performed well in the ACT Premier Twenty20 tournament, and those guys are very excited to see how they stack up against the best around the country.

"Everyone we could take, that’s what we’ve got."

The NPT20 tournament looms as another chance for Tuggeranong to add to a trophy cabinet seemingly falling apart at the hinges, thanks to the sheer weight of premierships they have won in recent years.

Beyond that they have a chance to secure another two-day title, with an outright victory against Norths on the horizon thanks to a healthy 243 run lead after the first innings.

Michael Barrington-Smith blasted 128 to lead Tuggeranong to 5dec-323 before Devoy claimed 6-13 to leave the hosts all out for 88 and staring down the barrel of a hefty defeat.

There is one regular season round remaining before the two-day semi-finals get underway on March 16, with the three-day grand final to follow on March 22.

"Over the past month we’ve had March in mind," Devoy said.

"For us it’s all about good processes, to look at what wins finals. For us it’s about batters playing good cricket shots, and if opportunities take a while to present, that’s fine. For our bowlers, it’s just bowling challenging balls as often as you can.

"Outside of that, I don’t think there is too much else you can control, and that applies whether it’s the two-day finals later this month or next week in Adelaide.

"You’ve got to focus on what you do and the rest hopefully looks after itself."
