Marsh, 35, crunched an unbeaten 163 for Western Australia in the Warriors' five-wicket win over South Australia on Monday, his second century in three innings ensuring he will line-up against India in the first Test in Adelaide next month.

He had been under enormous pressure after a miserable series against Pakistan last month when he scored only 14 runs at 3.5 but a century against South Africa in the one-day international in Hobart and his second-innings heroics against the Redbacks will mean his indifferent career of 34 Tests will continue.

"It has felt good the last few weeks now. I just want to keep playing with that freedom," Marsh said.

"I'm not too sure when they're picking the [Test] team. It's out of my control and I haven't been thinking about it at all over the last couple of weeks."

However, his credit points are thin, for he has only 161 runs at 13.4 in his past 12 Test innings.

"I have just wanted to play well, obviously, in the one-dayers [for Australia] and play well for WA. Honestly, that has been my thought process the whole way along," Marsh said.

Travis Head's Test hopes are also in the balance as the national selectors prepare to meet this week but his 87 in the first innings - he made six in the second - has ensured he remains in the frame.

"I batted well in the first innings - disappointing not to get a hundred. And again disappointing to get out the way I did in the [second] innings but those things happen. You can't get runs every time ... I feel like I'm playing well," he said.

Queensland coach Wade Seccombe has backed Renshaw to prosper against India should he be named as Aaron Finch's opening partner.

Renshaw's Test hopes have been ruined by injury, a head knock and poor form in recent months and he failed to deliver in the Bulls' 163-run loss to NSW, falling for 21 and 6.

Teammate Marnus Labuschagne (4 and 52), having made his Test debut against Pakistan, was also unable to make a major impression. So too Joe Burns (6 and 38), who had been an outside chance of taking on India on December 6.

"Cricket watchers in Australia recognise what a great talent he [Renshaw] is, and we’re just going to see Marnus get better and better," Seccombe said.

"They can definitely take that step up - disappointed they both didn’t really cash in on this game but I’ve got no doubt about them for the future.

"I hope [selectors] look back at performances over a period of time and pick their best side based on time rather than what’s happening in the here and now."

Spinner Nathan Lyon (5-94) and paceman Josh Hazlewood (4-30) were superb in spearing the Blues to victory.

Former Australian gloveman Matthew Wade reinforced why he remains one of the most dynamic batsmen in first-class cricket by crunching 137 off 194 balls against Victoria in Hobart, setting the visitors 276 to win. The Tigers, rolled for 81 on day one, responded with 476 on day three.

Forgotten Test batsman Alex Doolan made 94 while Test skipper Tim Paine made 40, finding touch ahead of a major series.

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja is almost certain to play in next month's first Test against India in Adelaide.

The 31-year-old batsman's recovery from a knee injury has progressed to the point where he'll face bowling later this week in the nets.

Khawaja hasn't played since undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus suffered during Australia's Test series against Pakistan in October in the UAE.

Khawaja's last Test innings was a monumental 141, which lifted Australia to a remarkable draw against Pakistan in Dubai.

In his absence, Australia's batsmen have been underwhelming, both in the second Test in Abu Dhabi and then on home soil in three one-day internationals and Saturday's rain-marred Twenty20 against South Africa.

"It's going pretty well so far, just over two weeks, ran at 100 per cent yesterday on the treadmill, hopefully run outside tomorrow, so progressing well so far," Khawaja said last week about his recovery.

Since then, Khawaja has faced throw downs in the nets and is due to face bowling later this week.

It's understood he'll then eye off Queensland's Sheffield Shield match with Victoria from November 27 in Brisbane or a Futures League match to prove his fitness for the opening Test against India starting on December 6 in Adelaide.

Khawaja might even line up for a Cricket Australia XI against India in a tour match starting next Wednesday at the SCG.
