When the dust settled on a stellar rookie year, Rogers was always going to put a six-week break to good use before he set his sights on his sophomore season.

Rogers hit the road with his girlfriend Jaclyn, up through Melbourne and along the coast up to Cairns. They stopped in at as many islands and beaches as possible.

Then, as Rogers puts it, the time came to "swap sun for snow, Cairns for Cooma, thongs for thermals, budgies for beanies, and mojitos for milos".

The 24-year-old soon went back to Hobart and straight into the nets, into the gym, and onto the running track as he looks to go one better than last season.

Now Rogers has been named in the Tasmanian squad preparing to open their domestic One-Day Cup campaign against Victoria at Townsville's Riverway Stadium on Wednesday.

"The same nervous excitement is still there, but I guess you can take a little bit of comfort in being through it once before," Rogers said.

"Playing in those finals was a great sign that what we were doing was working. We still have a ways to go to demonstrated consistent performances week in, week out.

"We had some great performances that got us to that level, but we really want to be showcasing that on a consistent basis. Being runners-up in two of those competitions has left the boys with plenty of desire to improve, get back to that stage and go one step further.

"I didn't get a chance to play too much one-day cricket last year, but hopefully I put a couple of good performances on the board and play most of the games for Tassie and get a few more wins on the board.

"Everyone is at that stage where they’re sick of training and ready to rock and roll, so we’ll wait and see but hopefully it should be alright."

Rogers laughs his second pre-season campaign as a professional cricketer was much easier than his first, after he initially moved to Hobart in the midst of Australian cricket's pay dispute.

It was a nerve-racking time, but shifting away from the mainland and playing cricket full-time just meant the dream was starting to come true, and now Rogers is determined to make every day a winner.

"We’ve had a pretty good preparation leading into it. We were up in Brisbane for a week to get a bit more game time on what the wickets are going to be like up here," Rogers said.

"Down in Tassie, we’ve been pretty fortunate this year. We chucked up a marquee this year so we were able to get turf wickets up about two and a half to three months ago which is a first for Tassie.

"Like Canberra, it’s pretty cold most of the time during that time of year, so we’re usually limited to training indoors. The preparation has been pretty good from that perspective."

Rogers has 10 first class matches, three one-dayers and four BBL caps to his name following a stellar introduction to domestic cricket.

He has certainly come a long way since his junior days at Weston Creek Molonglo, but a few familiar faces at Tasmania's games make Rogers feel right at home.

"Dad is still working part-time to fund his flights for the cricket season. Him and mum are coming up to Townsville," Rogers said.

"They might shoot over to Magnetic Island and see a few sights, cuddle a few koalas in between a bit of cricket watching hopefully."
