Canberra cyclist Chloe Hosking wins opening stage of women's tour

Canberra cycling star Chloe Hosking has won stage one of the women's Herald Sun Tour.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist took out a reduced bunch sprint at the end of the 97.9-kilometre race on the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday.

Despite Hosking's focus  being on bigger prizes in the European spring and the world championships later in the year, it's her fourth win of the month.

She also won a stage of the Women's Tour Down Under, a stage of the Bay Crits and the Race Melbourne criterium last week.

Hosking praised the efforts of her Ale-Cipollini team.

"My girls today were insane. So happy to finish off their hard work. Grande raga!" she tweeted.

The women's tour will wrap up with a hilly stage near Churchill, east of Melbourne, on Thursday.

Then Hosking will get married before heading overseas for the European spring where she intends to be in peak fitness.
