After a traditional smoking ceremony on Tuesday, Dallinger helped unveil the design she had spent months creating, describing the significance of the goanna, river, waterholes, turtle and stars in her artwork before gifting defender Sam Poolman with the original canvas from which the dress was modelled.

Poolman has been a mentor to Dallinger through her ASPIRE program in the Hunter region, ever since the youngster moved from Dubbo about 12 months ago.

A member of the Kamilaroi Nation from western NSW, Dallinger gave Poolman a hat last year covered with Indigenous paintings. That act of kindness and gratitude ultimately led to the Giants asking her to design their dress for this weekend.

"I got to go to her school just before Christmas and surprise her with the message which was awesome, she was full of tears," Poolman said.

"It was really exciting because I think she idolises us as players. She spent the whole Christmas holidays designing our dress.

"[The design] represents the inland, the coastal and they've mentioned that we're all under the one sky so the stars are at the top of the dress.

"Not only does it reflect her journey but I think the impact that her family and the community has had on her journey, which is what we're all about at the Giants.

"The middle part is a river that connects the waterholes which means that we all connect together. Her telling me directly what that story meant was really awesome."

A sellout crowd of 7200 is expected for the second Sydney derby this season, being played at the International Convention Centre which is hosting a netball game for the first time.

The Swifts will be draped in their own Indigenous dress, designed by renowned artist Dennis Golding of the Kamilaroi/Gamillaraay people from NSW's north west.

He has previously designed Indigenous jerseys for South Sydney and the Wests Tigers in the NRL, and the Wallabies.

His design represents local Aboriginal lands on which the Swifts work, travel and play. Circular imagery throughout the design represents meeting places, while three Swifts can be seen in flight down the bottom of the dress.

"It's pretty cool because not many of us are from NSW so it just shows all of us coming together as one and coming to the same spot to play," Swifts defender Maddy Turner said.

Turner played a key role in helping the Swifts notch their first victory over the Giants in round three, and said Sunday's clash is a must-win if they club wants to keep its season alive.

"To guarantee our spot [in the finals] we need to win, we've got three on the road to finish and we haven't won away yet," Turner said.

"Our first rounds of the season, we had so much momentum, five wins on the board is what you wanted and to drop off the last couple of weeks is not ideal.

"They've improved and we've changed as well, we just need to show up on the day, stop over thinking and trust each other."
