English superstar Harten was superb at goal attack throughout the contest and shrugged off several Swifts defensive set-ups in powering her side to victory, finishing with 29 goals from 37 shots and plenty of assists to boot.

Her side now sit just three points behind the top-placed West Coast Fever, while the Swifts are now seven points off fourth spot and staring at a must-win game against the in-form Fever this weekend.

Swifts coach Briony Akle challenged her team to commit to the hardest training week of their lives in the aftermath of Sunday's loss in front of 5110 fans at the International Convention Centre, with her side now needing four wins from their final four games to finish in the top four.

"We've still got a chance, we've got some really winnable games coming up, who knows with this bonus-point system how it'll play out," Akle said.

"I've just said to the girls that this week has got to be the hardest training session of their lives. The stuff we put out today – we had some great stuff and we had some absolutely terrible play.

"Once we get the whole team firing at the same time, that's when we'll get the consistency, rather than the other way around."

Julie Fitzgerald's Giants have no such concerns, after they fended off a Swifts comeback that reduced the margin to just one midway through the third quarter before clinically killing off the contest.

Harten's performance allowed fellow shooters Susan Pettitt (19/21) and Kristina Brice (18/21) to apply consistent scoreboard pressure throughout, and take full advantage when the Swifts kept turning over the ball.

Pettitt started the match at goal shooter, and after half-time Fitzgerald brought on Brice, giving the Swifts another defensive headache to deal with.

"We're blessed to have three shooters and two of them can come out and play goal attack for us," Fitzgerald said.

"Jo gives some things, Pratts [Pettitt] gives others, and then we can bring in 'KB' and she adds something else again.

"We just managed to maintain control today, very often when we get caught up in a high-paced match like that when a lot is happening, we start to lose control of the pace of the game.

"Today we did a much better job of perhaps controlling that pace and playing at a pace that we were comfortable with."

Akle started with Maddy Turner at goal defence and Sarah Klau at goal keeper, before the latter was substituted at quarter time for Kate Eddy.

Klau returned to the contest later on at goal defence, but Harten was not to be stopped.

"She's world class, their team is world class," Akle said.

"Every moment of that was a learning curve for us against those attacking players of the Giants.

"Our defence has actually been quite consistent, but I think this week it wasn't as consistent. It gives us some good stuff to work on this week."

The Giants now face a three-match road trip against the Queensland Firebirds, Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood which will determined their top-two fate.
