Garbin missed the weekend’s loss to Melbourne and will race the clock this week to be fit for the first netball game at the International Convention Centre. But the Giants have no such concerns despite Jo Harten, Serena Guthrie and Sam Poolman all being forced to leave the court in Sunday’s win over Adelaide.

Harten came off late suffering from cramp, while Poolman copped a heavy knock that left her bleeding profusely from a cut above the nose, but was able to return.

Guthrie was left dazed after a first-half collision against Adelaide and remained on the bench for the rest of the game, despite passing concussion protocols.

Captain Kim Green, who missed the game to nurse a calf complaint, has also declared herself fit to return against the Swifts. It leaves the Swifts facing a monumental task to halt a two-match winless run that has dropped them to sixth on the ladder.

‘‘She’s just a great leader and I actually think she’s probably the best wing attack in the world at the moment so it’s nice to have her on our team,’’ Giants coach Julie Fitzgerald said of Green. ‘‘She’s got a wealth of knowledge and she reads the game really well. She can be your voice out there while you can’t be there. She’s very analytical, she’ll sit down and study a game for long periods of time. All of that’s invaluable.’’

The Swifts are still reeling from a horror week in which they were soundly beaten by the in-form Vixens, only days after a ruptured Achilles tendon ended midcourter Claire O’Brien’s season. Coach Briony Akle was forced to sideline Garbin, impacting the depth of her squad’s attacking prowess.

Garbin was brilliant in helping the Swifts to a comeback win over the Giants in round three this year, but that historic triumph is now a distant memory with Akle’s side now seven points adrift of the top four. A call on Garbin’s fitness will be made later this week, but the young sharpshooter is confident she will return.

‘‘I think it’s bone bruising, a little bit like a tendon is trying to pull off the bone or something,’’ Garbin said. ‘‘They were just worried it was a more important ligament but it’s not that important so it’s all right. I spoke to the doctor today and he said if I can get through this week pretty much I’ll be able to play. It’ll just be slowly working my way through, I was in a boot last week but I’ve taken that off ... I should be right.’’
