Then he saw his little brother Kirk and the gravity of what Roberts and his Blues teammates had just achieved hit him in a tidal wave of emotion.

"Once I saw my little brother when he arrived through the door, I just started crying and just hugging him and kissing him and it just made the whole night perfect," Roberts said.

"It's been a long journey for me and everything that's happened to me affects my family and my little brothers, and I'm a role model for them.

"To be able to do something to make my family proud and make my mother proud it really makes me feel good.

"I just told him [Kirk] I loved him.

"It's a dream come true to be able to achieve something so great and dedicate it all to him. He's the reason I tick, it's unexplainable really.

Kirk suffers from muscular dystrophy, and his physical condition has slowly deteriorated since being diagnosed with the disease aged five.

He is now forced to use a motorised wheelchair, but he remains Roberts' biggest fan and the bond between the two brothers is unbreakable.

Roberts is already planning a big party for his younger brother's 21st birthday next year.

But for the moment he's celebrating a drought-breaking Origin series win, and helping coach Brad Fittler plot a clean sweep in his first year as coach.

Roberts spent most of the last 10 minutes of Sunday's game in the change room after he was sin binned in the 69th minute for a professional foul, adjudged to have impeded Gavin Cooper as he chased a Ben Hunt grubber.

NSW captain Boyd Cordner had been awarded a penalty try earlier in the match for a similar incident, although on this occasion the Bunker ruled that Blues winger Tom Trbojevic would have cleaned up the Hunt kick before Cooper arrived.

It meant the officials refrained from awarding a second penalty try, but Roberts was marched for his involvement.

"It was the longest 10 minutes I've ever had," Roberts said.

"I come down into the sheds and I was doing laps with Paul Sironen trying to just keep me calm and telling me to just stay warm before I go on. I was just thinking of the worst but the boys dug deep.

"The boys did well and they defended for each other really well and played for each other and kept them out which is what we're about in this camp. It really showed the hunger and desire to win.

"It was a really awesome feeling to know that they stuck it out and they gave me time to just get out on the field and enjoy the win with them.

"[A] man down, with the side that Queensland had they kept them out and now the rest is history."
