Maguire is without a stack of firepower but the New Zealand Kiwis coach is brimming with confidence ahead of an historic Test against England at Mile High Stadium in Denver on Sunday morning.

New Zealand Warriors stars Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Tohu Harris have put club before country which has ultimately seen that same club refuse to risk injury-riddled duo Shaun Johnson and Gerard Beale.

Maguire was told the quartet wouldn't be available days out from selecting his squad, compounding the recent loss of captain Simon Mannering, Russell Packer and Ben Matulino, who all retired from representative football.

The concept of playing a Test as far abroad as the United States has been met with scepticism from many.

But Canberra Raiders second-rower Tapine is ready to provide Maguire with all the ammunition he needs to revitalise New Zealand after last year's forgettable World Cup campaign.

Maguire named him in the second row for the historic Test on Friday.

"I’m looking forward to it, always a good opportunity to play for my country and I will take it every time they ask me, no matter what," Tapine said.

"I’m looking forward to it, I’ve never been to America really, I’ve stopped over there. It will be a good experience and good for me."

The 24-year-old has played six Tests for New Zealand and his sheer determination to shine for the Kiwis at every opportunity leaves Maguire thinking Tapine has plenty more international football in him.

"He is a young kid with incredible talent," Maguire said.

"To be able to work with a lot of these players really, I look at the list that I’ve got, they’re all playing really good football. Joe is another one that as he grows, they can really establish themselves into this arena.

"Throughout the week Simon Mannering and some of the other boys retired. Simon has played 45 Tests for New Zealand.

"What it presents now is a great opportunity for these younger boys to come in and create their own piece of history around the jersey.

"People like Simon and many other great players for New Zealand have created their great stories but now it’s the young guys who get their opportunities."

The Kiwis are without superstar Raiders winger Jordan Rapana with the 28-year-old facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines with injury.

Maguire remains extremely confident he has the depth at his disposal to cover the loss of eight-Test Kiwi Rapana with the likes of Jordan Kahu, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Peta Hiku in the squad.

"The younger kids that are coming in, they’re all playing really good football," Maguire said.

"These players, they’re actually starring. They’re probably some of the best players that are starring for their teams. I’m excited around this team.

"When you bring a young group mixed with a good blend of old guys, there’s a lot of good things in it."

Tapine played a dominant hand scoring two tries in his return to the NRL during Canberra's thumping win over the Wests Tigers last Sunday after serving a two-week ban for a shoulder charge.

The dynamic back-rower has no plans to ditch his aggressive demeanour and Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has made it clear he won't ask him to.

"I had to really show that I deserved a spot [with Canberra against the Wests Tigers] after just letting the boys down and getting suspended for a couple of weeks," Tapine said.

"Watching is harder than being on there losing and I just wanted to show the boys I didn’t miss a beat. I’ve been training hard and tried to keep my fitness up for them."
