Collett rode Pin Sec to a dominant victory to secure a landmark Black Opal Stakes triumph at Canberra's Thoroughbred Park on Sunday, tightening the Godolphin stable's grip on the Golden Slipper.

But Shinn was the name on everybody's lips when the punters poured out of the gates and stumbled into cabs on the way home, with a host of racing die hards debating whether there is a more in-form jockey in Australia today.

Shinn rode three winners just one day after an emotional outing at Randwick, and just months after he suffered a serious neck injury in a barrier trial fall.

He spent arguably the longest five months of his career on the sidelines. Waiting, working, wondering when, if ever, he would ride again.

On Saturday he took Trapeze Artist past the post, and dedicated it to the superstar horse's regular rider Tye Angland, who has been confirmed quadriplegic after a fall in Hong Kong in November.

On Sunday, he had another three victories to savour. One on board Te Ata in race two, then on All Over Bosanova in race three, and again on Snippets Land in the National Sprint.

He may well have done it again in the Black Opal had Bivouac not been scratched. Instead, Pin Sec settled midfield on the fence before pulling out on the straight and producing a stunning turn of foot to sweep home to beat Rome by four lengths, with Mclaren rounding out the top three.

The comprehensive victory sees yet another Godolphin horse qualify for the world's richest two-year-old race, the Golden Slipper, at Rosehill Gardens on March 23.

"She does [look impressive] with the win and by that nice time. If they head to the Slipper, no doubt, she’ll be a good chance in that," Collett said.

"But if they don’t, she’s a nice filly on the way up. I’ll leave it up to James [Cummings] and his team. I would like to [ride] if the opportunity arises.

"There’s other mounts I’ve been riding heading towards the Slipper, so we’ll wait and see how things pan out. There’s another horse heading that way, Time To Reign.

"He probably didn’t live up to expectations yesterday but I’ll see how he goes with the Slipper with a few changes and hopefully get a different result."

Pin Sec surprised even those in the Godolphin stable with the way she jumped but as soon as she found space she clicked into gear and stamped her authority on the race.

But the seven-horse field was seemingly one unfit for the lustre surrounding the Black Opal, however Canberra Racing Club chiefs are adamant they are searching for quality over quantity.

Should Pin Sec advance to the Golden Slipper, she has a chance to prove just the kind of quality on hand in Canberra's showpiece race.

There seems little reason to doubt Pin Sec's ability on the big days such is the Godolphin stable's golden run with two-year-olds this season.

Pin Sec's qualification for the Golden Slipper could see her join Godolphin stablemates Microphone, Tenley, and Exhilarates, as well as the newly-accepted Lyre, should trainer James Cummings opt to run her.

The stable is taking over the world's richest two-year-old race.

"It looks like that, the way they’re going," Collett said.

"It feels very good [to get a win and another one in the mix]. She seemed nice and in the run, and she really exploded when I asked her to. I’m very happy with the win.

"Probably 600 from home, she started to get into a good rhythm and I just started to track into it well. I thought I should just get her to the outside, just get her clear air, and she will do the rest."
