It says: "No chainsaw anywhere in the ground."

From the outside looking in, Queanbeyan winger Jamie Marmont admits it must look a little strange, but it makes more sense for those who know the story of the lanky winger nicknamed "Chainsaw".

Marmont will play his 100th first grade game in the John I Dent Cup grand final against the Tuggeranong Vikings on Saturday.

The Queanbeyan flyer was a key part of a Whites' golden era that delivered three premierships in four years between 2007-10.

It was also an era where hearing the roar of a two-stroke engine chainsaw was commonplace at every Whites game, until they were banned by officials before the 2010 grand final.

The chainsaws were a nod to Queanbeyan's cult hero Marmont, who earned the nickname in his final year at St Edmund's College in a ploy to intimidate a touring Irish school.

"It was a bit more of a few of the boys getting in the ear of a few of their players," Marmont said.

"It started as a bit of a gee-up and obviously a few of my mates got on board through our era where we got a few grand finals there and thought they'd take it to the next level.

"[They got] the chainsaws out at the games, which I think all of us got a little bit pumped up, it was good."

Marmont becomes the 28th player to play 100 first grade games for the Whites, joining teammates Dan Penca and Chris Barbaro in the 52-year-old club's elite group.

But Marmont, who has family ties to Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart, isn't letting the milestone get in the way of focusing on the job at hand.

"It's nice to be recognised alongside some of those names," Marmont said.

"It's great, but I think it'll feel even better if we're holding that John I Dent Cup at the end come Saturday afternoon."

A member of Queanbeyan's 2005-14 Team of the Decade, Marmont had no idea just how close he was to the milestone until last weekend's preliminary final.

"Someone mentioned it, [saying] 'do you know how many games you're on? Do you know what today's game is?'" Marmont said.

"Then they mentioned I was on 99. The timing's been right, put it that way. I didn't plan for it, I didn't really know how many games I was on until just before the game last week."

The three-time premiership player was forced to miss Queanbeyan's last grand final appearance in 2014 which he says would make a victory on Saturday so much sweeter.

"It's always frustrating having to play spectator, not being out there," Marmont said.

"I think there's no result sweeter looking back on past grand finals when we've clashed [with Tuggeranong]. Six years since we've won it - it's been a while between drinks, and I think the hunger's starting to [take over] and the boys are keen to get another one."
