The Canberra United defender hasn't played since she copped a sickening head knock against Sydney FC on December 2. The first thing she remembers was "seeing the light".

Fortunately, it was the piercing sun and not her impending demise which Prior saw, after spending more than four minutes unconscious on the McKellar Park turf.

The concussion was the sixth of the 20-year-old's young career, and ruled her out for the remainder of the W-League season.

Her father Spencer Prior built a reputation in the English Premier League as a tough defender for Manchester City and Leicester City.

Prior was initially resolved to the fact she would retire but is now starting to weigh up returning next season. She remains undecided.

"I don't remember anything from the game - the first thing I remember was waking up and seeing a bright, white light and I thought I'd died," she said.

"I later realised it was the sun, but it was a pretty scary moment because for a split second, I thought 'Oh my gosh what is that?' Then I heard our physio and doctor and my partner Nikola [Orgill] on the field.

"Internally I had a bit of a laugh when I realised, but spatially I couldn't express that."

Prior emphasised it was "by far the worst" concussion of her career and admits it will be daunting coming back if she does decide to keep playing.

"I had that [retirement] discussion with my doctor and she said the ball is in my court," Prior said.

"It's scary to think about coming back. The injury shook me a fair bit and for a few weeks after I said I won't come back because it was quite a scary incident.

"But now it's been a few weeks and I'm feeling a bit better... It's a hard decision and I've got to take the emotion out of it and work out if I want to risk my health in such a big way.

"I've never been the type of player to throw my body on the line. I don't go clumsily into tackles and I think about whether I have to commit. I think I'm pretty unlucky with six concussions.

"If I did come back, I'd wear the cushioned headband that Georgia Yeoman-Dale wears after she got a head knock and stitches and concussion earlier in the season.

"I think in the long run I probably will play again, I really miss it so I'm pretty keen to come back to Canberra United next season and play."

Prior has remained an active member of the Canberra squad and attends every training session, but admits it's been tough watching from the sideline.

Canberra's slim finals hopes remain alive after their game against Melbourne Victory at Seiffert Oval on Thursday night was abandoned due to lightning.

"We've been unlucky with some of the results this season. We've lost concentration in games and it has cost us a few times," Prior said.

"We also haven't played very well and haven't been able to finish games. But leading into the final game, all the girls are happy and in a good place and confident."
