Post match

Rafael Nadal has given a revealing interview with John McEnroe on court. Among other things, the Spaniard said he didn't think he would be in this spot - in the Australian Open final - after pulling out of the Brisbane International a few weeks ago.

"It has been a great match, a great tournament. I think I have played very well every day," Nadal said. "This court, this crowd, gives me that unbelievable energy."

The Spaniard also had some complimentary words when quizzed about his opponent: "He has everything to be a multi grand slam champion ...

"I hope to face him in important rounds in the future."

Nadal was pushed to deuce in the final service game but it did not matter ....

A 6-0 result in the third set closes it up. A convincing victory.

Nadal d. Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4, 6-0

The first break point for Tsitsipas ...

A reminder .. he's two sets to love down and trailing 0-5 in the third.

A long time ago now ...

The pre-match photo:

Triple break!

Tsitsipas drops serve ... he's lost his way here. His composure is gone. The scoreboard and Nadal's tenacity has got to him.

Game Nadal

Suddenly it's 4-0, third set. Tsitsipas needs to dig deep here. Just fight it out!

Ahhh, something of a brain fade

Trailing 3-0 and on Nadal's serve, the situation is getting to Tsitsipas. There was one ball belted into the stands and then another point where he seemed to think a ball was going out - it didn't - and he half hit it back. Yes, he did lose the point ...

Cracking and awe-inspiring tennis from Nadal. He breaks Tsitsipas again. That backhand lob by Nadal at 30-30 was special. Make sure you check it out.

Nadal leads 6-2, 6-4, 3-0
