It's the key the seven-time major champion wants to use to help give Indigenous children an education.
That's what the Evonne Goolagong Foundation has been doing for 15 years and she continued that work at Melba Tennis Club on Wednesday.
There were about 110 kids taking part - about 40 more than normal - in the start of a journey that could lead anywhere.
It could be to a doctor - they've had their first two graduate recently - or a teacher or whatever else your dream might be.
The come-and-try clinic at Melba was the first step towards a potential Foundation scholarship.
"We're using tennis as a vehicle to create better education and health," Goolagong Cawley said.
"We show them all the different strokes and everything about the game and then the child that really listens to the coaches and has a great time and tries really hard we'll give them a free tennis scholarship. Sometimes five, sometimes seven. "
From there the kids can progress through to the national squad, which has a camp at Monash University, in Melbourne, during the first week of the Australian Open.
That includes a day out on centre court on the Tuesday.
Its now courtesy of Tennis Australia, but in the beginning Goolagong Cawley was using her own two tickets to get the kids in - every Australian Open winner gets two centre court tickets, every day, every year.
From there, the Foundation helps their pupils get to quality schools and universities.
"We've given out 67 scholarships to quality education around Australia, 17 going to uni," Goolagond Cawley said.
"We had our first two doctors, we've got teachers, chiropractors ... it's not just about tennis.
"It's about using tennis to attract them and give out education messages."
Goolagong Cawley hopes to help Indigenous kids follow a similar path to what she did.
Before she became a star tennis player, who would win four Australian Opens, Wimbledon twice and the French Open as well, she had homework to do.
"I had to stay in school before I started travelling overseas," she said.
"I was good enough - I'd beaten Margaret [Court] for the first time before I left and I thought, 'Oh, I might do alright overseas' and won a few tournaments.
"I thought I'm good enough, but my coach said, 'No, finish your schooling'.
"I went to Willoughby Girls High, I finished my high school certificate and then I did shorthand and typing the next year. Then started travelling and never used it since."
