The PCYC Plunge, the first event of its kind in the ACT, is set to be an adrenaline-filled way to raise funds for Canberra's disadvantaged youth. Originally scheduled to run in October 2018, the event has been moved to March 21-24.

Police Citizens Youth Club Canberra executive manager Cheryl O'Donnell got the unique idea from the Sir David Martin Foundation's abseil down a Sydney skyscraper, an event that raised over a quarter of a million dollars.

"When I was checking out Lovett Tower and reached the top, I thought: 'What have I done?' It felt so high," Ms O'Donnell said.

"I nearly fainted. But I looked down and thought: 'Nope, it's for the kids.'"

From 7am to 7pm between October 25 and 28*, adventure fundraising organiser Urban Descent will conduct 100 abseils down the tower each day. Three abseiling lines will run from the top with participants descending 90 metres to a BBQ feed below.

And it doesn't stop at the plunge. For the thrillseekers, there's a 125 metre zipline, which will run from the top of Lovett Tower, across the concourse and over to the access building.

The club will put funds toward an outreach vehicle to serve the "kids on the streets who are falling through the gaps".

Operating as a mobile office, the vehicle will have a meeting room, food and information services plus it will provide instant referrals for youth in need of drug rehabilitation and hospitalisation.

Ms O'Donnell says the club has had an 80 per cent success rate in improving the situation of the Canberra young people they work with through other outreach programs.

She hopes the daring event will also increase awareness about how focusing on young people can improve the community in a practical way.

"Every dollar put into Canberra PCYC in the long term saves the community $7. The money goes to help kids disengaged from education and kids participating in criminal activities."

The plunge is also a wheelchair-friendly event. One of the first plunge participants will be Anj Barker, a domestic violence advocate who will abseil the tower in her wheelchair.

"As soon as I mentioned the plunge to Anj she said: 'I'm in!' Nothing stops her," Ms O'Donnell said.

Ms O'Donnell hoped this unstoppable spirit would encourage those who were nervous to take the plunge.

"We've got kids who are being bullied at school, whose parents have just suicided, who are involved with drugs and domestic violence," she said.

"You've got to put your fear aside. We expect a lot from these young people nowadays, so taking the plunge is a good way of showing the community cares.

"The kids are screaming for help."
