ACT Policing said initial investigations indicated the fire was sparked by a burnt-out stolen car late on Thursday afternoon.
The spokesman said police believed the same car - understood to be a blue Toyota Hilux Workmate with NSW registration - had failed to stop for police about two hours before the fire started.
The alert level for the fire remained at Advice as of Monday night, with the fire danger rating for Tuesday set to High with north-westerly winds expected.
Ground crews were expected to continue to patrol and monitor the fire ground for hotspots throughout Monday night, with firefighting operations and rehabilitation to continue throughout the week.
Rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to ensure favourable conditions continue for the firefighting efforts. There's a high chance of showers and potentially a thunderstorm on Tuesday, followed by a very high chance of rain on Wednesday, with 15 to 25 millimetres of rain expected.
Despite the rain, smoke is expected to drift across the city in the next few days, with the Emergency Services Agency advising people with asthma, chronic respiratory or cardiac diseases shouldn't perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by dust or smoke. People with asthma should continue to take their medication and consult their doctor if needed.
