So when the Muslim boxer steps inside the squared circle on Friday night, the bout will mean so much more than the chance to claim the Australian featherweight crown.

Elmir (2-0) will dedicate her Australian championship bout against Reanne Ware (professional debut) to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attacks when she enters the ring at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.

The often outspoken 36-year-old will never forget the aftermath of the horrific attacks which claimed 50 lives during Friday prayer, on what New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as "one of New Zealand's darkest days".

Elmir found comfort in the voice of her cousin, who offered a perspective perhaps few have considered: as terrible as the events were, she could take solace in the fact "they were in a place of worship, on the holiest day for Muslims, a Friday, they were submitting to God".

But with the attack came a stark truth in Elmir's eyes.

"It’s unfortunately not even surprising. The brutality of it was surprising, but the death of Muslims in a modern western country wasn’t surprising. It was just a matter of time," Elmir said.

"I know that is such a gloomy concession, but there has been so much hate speech, inciting hateful words and actions, and people are becoming more empowered in those intense views of looking at Islam.

"Those voices have become louder and louder. It was absolutely horrible, I was crying for a couple of days because of the intensity of it. My mum was hysterical, there were people mourning outside mosques. It was heart wrenching, disgusting, so bad.

"I sat with friends and cried for a couple of days. It was a very individual mourning process for me. I spoke to my cousin and she is deep in a Muslim community in Sydney, we consoled each other.

"For me, pursuing something I love so deeply and I am so passionate about, it means more because I am able to dedicate it to something important to me which is recognising the death of these innocent people.

"This fight has a lot more meaning to me, there is a lot more behind it for me in just publicly recognising something so horrible like people dying in an innocent way.

"It's really important for me to use my profile, or I use the opportunity of having a fight and getting a belt, dedicating that to something that is really important."

Elmir has left no stone unturned in her preparation to claim the Australian championship in what would be a stirring dedication to the Muslim community.

She has sparred with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship title-holder Bec Rawlings and highly-rated super bantamweight boxer April Adams for the fight that could change her life.

"It’s going to unlock doors to something greater for me which is what I am heading towards," Elmir said.

"This is going to set me up for a regional belt. I’m looking forward, the pathway is an Australian title, then a regional title, then I’m going to be on a pathway towards a world title."
