Canberra Metro ripped up 15 metres of track nearly a week out from the launch of light rail after it didn't meet "quality expectations", Transport Canberra has confirmed.

Light rail is set to start running on April 20, following a community preview with 300 passengers on April 18.
However construction workers were spotted tearing up parts of the track near Nullarbor Avenue last week.
A Transport Canberra spokesman said the tracks were being re-done to improve drainage and pedestrian access around the stop.
He also said the work had nothing to do with the accreditation of the system, which was still on track to be signed off on by next week's community launch.
"In accordance with Canberra Metro's focus on delivering a light rail system for Canberra that is of the highest quality, it was determined that reinstallation of this section of rail would provide a more optimal outcome for the system in the long term," he said.
"This will save the potential need for works to be undertaken years into the future."
It is understood the area has routinely been flooded during wet weather, with water pooling around the tracks. Cracks had also formed in concrete, witnesses said.
The work was finished on Tuesday, the spokesman said.
