Eight same-sex couples will tie the knot in a "history-making" public ceremony as part of the opening day of Brisbane Festival on Saturday, with one of the couples to tie the knot in drag.

It has been described by Brisbane Pride as the "biggest and boldest" event to celebrate marriage equality and will "put a public face to the hell" the LGBTIQ community has endured.
One of the couples selected to take part in the event is Christian Leatherbarrow and Brad Hicks, who will say "I do" dressed in drag - an Australian-first.
The drag husbands met two-and-a-half years ago through mutual Facebook friends and said they were always confident marriage equality would happen within their lifetime.
They said they were "super excited" to make history and get married in drag as part of Brisbane Festival's Qweens on King event.
"What better way to celebrate what love is," Mr Hicks said.
"We're super excited to be making history ...
"It's all coming very fast.
"People at work think we are flat-out organising the wedding, but everything has been done for us."
The husbands-to-be perform as Miss Carmen Taykett and Miss Cookie Cartell and said they would be proud to tie the knot and publically represent the LGBTIQ community.
They are raising five children together and hope all of them can play a part in the ceremony.
Brisbane Pride vice president Michael James said the city would see a historic event on Saturday afternoon.
"As far as I’m aware there has been nothing like this before," he said.
"This is the biggest and boldest event that we’ve done and we're excited to be partnering with Brisbane Festival.
"The people involved will make it a really special, history-making event where couples can proclaim their love for each other in front of everybody.
"This is our event and our way of saying 'we’re here, we’re queer and we're happy, so come and celebrate with us'."
Mr James said the marriage equality postal survey was "ridiculous" and affected a large portion of the LGBTIQ community.
"It was almost a bittersweet victory because we had to go through such a tough battle to get there," he said.
"We were constantly having to justify ourselves to friends and family and were continually having to validate our existence.
"This event will put a public face to the hell we went through last year."
The Qweens on King event will also be used to launch the 27th annual Brisbane Pride Festival, which is Queensland’s largest and Australia’s third-largest LGBTIQ event.
It attracts more than 10,000 festivalgoers during four weeks in September, with a highlight being Pride Fair Day on September 22 in Brisbane's New Farm Park.
Qweens on King will be held on Saturday, September 8 from 4pm-8pm. Brisbane Festival runs from September 8-29.
