The block, known as Section 72, sits between the Dickson pool and the Majura playing fields on Antill Street.

Earlier this year the government called for community consultation on the block that went for six weeks. Following feedback from the first stage of engagement, two design scenarios were developed to illustrate the possible future of block might look like.

It heard from inner north residents and the wider community about their aspirations for Dickson.

"The first stage of engagement told us there is support for people to live in an area close to the services at the Dickson group centre," a government statement said.

"There was also support for more community facilities in the inner north."

Issues raised during the first consultation included protection and enhancement of green space and urban amenity, better active travel connections and supportive infrastructure and for an inclusive precinct.

There were also concerns about building heights over three to four storeys.

The government said the site, which is within walking distance of Dickson shops, Dickson pool and the first stage of light rail, would bring more community facilities and more private and social housing for the inner north.

In October last year the ACT government announced plans to build the territory's second Common Ground project on the site. It purchased blocks 6 and 25 in 2012. The first Common Ground project was completed in 2015 in Gungahlin.

Common Ground is an experiment in low-cost supportive housing, which combines accommodation and on-site support services within a stable community to support people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerability in Canberra.

Consultation will include an open house workshop, face to face conversations and a survey on the YourSay website.
