"Anything less than that, you’re probably selling yourself a bit short."
Wilson is one of Canberra's prized recruits handed the task of taking the Capitals back to the finals for the first time since the 2010-11 season, with the squad beginning to assemble as pre-season training gets underway.
The three-time WNBL champion is one of several big-name players on Canberra's roster this season alongside her close friend Kelsey Griffin, Marianna Tolo and Leilani Mitchell.
Throw in some of Australian basketball's most promising prospects in Kristy Wallace, Maddison Rocci, and Hannah Young, as well as superstar import Kia Nurse, and Wilson has just the right ingredients to make her dream a reality.
"I want to be part of a winning and successful team, that’s the aim for any season I play," Wilson said.
"We’ve got a mix of youth and experience and hopefully that meshes well. Hopefully they’ll learn something and enjoy playing basketball, that’s what it’s all about.
"Obviously for me I’ve been around for a while, but a change is as good as a holiday, that’s what they say. I’m really looking forward to it, I think the group Gorrie has put on the floor could be an amazing team so that’s something to look forward to.
"Being a point guard and playing the guard position, for me to be able to distribute the ball to those types of players is something I’m looking forward to.
"Hopefully I can take on a bit of a scoring role as well this season but it’s obviously a great team that has been put together, but that’s what the pre-season is for. We need to be able to gel well together also."
Young comes into her first WNBL season with "high expectations" and a winning mentality perfectly complementing that of Wilson's.
Goriss is glad he never gave up on the former Virginia Tech star, who has been plying her trade for the Newcastle Hunters in the Waratah Championship League since returning from the United States.
The Capitals mentor was on hand for Canberra's first pre-season training session this week but he will be out the door for the next month as an assistant with the Australian Opals at the World Cup.
"He’s been contacting me for a while, I think since 2016. I liked that he was really persistent with me and really wanted me to come here, so that was a massive thing for me," Young said.
"I think we’re in good hands [without Goriss in town]. Phil Brown and Carly Wilson will both be here. I think we’ll be fine honestly. We have a great bunch of girls, and if we all work together and stick together we’ll be fine.
"They’re all very lovely girls, there’s no hardship in that."
