The young comedian was killed as she walked across a soccer field in Melbourne on her way home in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week. Ms Dixon had just performed a stand-up gig.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder and rape.

Thousands of mourners attended a vigil in Melbourne on Monday night, and on Thursday, it will be Canberra's turn to remember the 22-year-old.

Reclaim Haig Park Solidarity Vigil organiser Blair Williams said the event was a reflective vigil for Eurydice and was a place for women to come together and feel empowered.

Many women were saddened and horrified by her death, Ms Williams said.

"She should have been able to walk home safely from work."

She said Haig Park was a beautiful park that was used by many to go home but many did not feel  safe when walking through.

"A lot of women, myself included do not feel comfortable walking through Haig Park at night at all because it’s scary and they don’t feel comfortable - but they need to walk through, they need to get home from work," she said.

"It’s an important space to 'reclaim' but also we’re in solidarity with Eurydice.

"We should be able to walk home whenever we want and wherever we want and make it home safe. This city is our city too. We should be able to safely access it.

Crimes reported in and around the park from 2011 to September 18 2016 included a homicide, three assaults, two sexual assaults, four robberies, one fraud, nine stolen cars, five cases of property damage, four drug arrests, three fires, six drunks and 12 suspicious or wanted people.

In a risk assessment for the ACT government, published under freedom of information laws, ACT Policing assessed the park and said there was poor lighting, with lights either poorly maintained or obscured by trees, litter and rubbish dumping in the park, and drinking in the park was rarely dealt with.

Improvements have since been made, according to a City Renewal Authority spokesman, who confirmed that visibility had been improved by the removal of some trees and lower branches, and lighting. He said new footpaths had also been placed through the park, with more improvements planned.

A fundraising campaign for Ms Dixon's family had reached more than $67,000 on Monday afternoon.

Ms Williams asked Canberrans to bring candles.

The vigil will be held at Haig Park path off Lonsdale Street from 6pm.
