Dave Toussaint sits on the cusp of the world's top 15 with an eye on boxing's grand stage after he added the Australasian middleweight title to his glistening resume.

Canberra's Toussaint (13-0) captured the ANBF Australasian middleweight championship in a unanimous decision victory over New Zealand's Gunnar Jackson (27-10-4) at Capital Fight Show 14 at the Hellenic Club on Friday.

The 26-year-old added his second Australasian strap to his Australian middleweight championship - he won the trans-Tasman title at super middleweight earlier in his career.

But it is what is on the horizon that excites him the most as Toussaint edges closer to realising a dream.

"I had a goal to get to the top 15 this year and the fact that it could happen from this fight is going be great," Toussaint said.

"It could even be top 10 by the end of the year, we’ll see. I have a goal to get to the top 15 this year and then top five next year and on the brink of a world title. We’ll see, one fight at a time and at the moment I am 13-0 so it’s good.

"Yes and no [I have to pinch myself], I’ve done a lot of hard work to get myself to this position, and I was happy to get the belt.

"There was a lot at stake to win for myself and the team as well. Then friends and family and everyone that came to support me had a lot riding on it. I was happy to get the win, especially here in Canberra."

Toussaint's undefeated record looked in danger for a few fleeting moments after Jackson switched his stance to southpaw midway through the second round and rocked him with a power shot.

But the Canberra product battled back to box Jackson's ears off and claim a comprehensive decision victory.

"He came out at southpaw and that threw me a bit, but when he switched to southpaw he threw a big left power hand and that was it," Toussaint said.

"I knew if he switched like that then he would do that, and that was what caught me early and I felt alright after that.

"Once you get to a certain level when a guy fights inside or outside, long or short, southpaw or orthodox, it’s the same sort of thing.

"You have little tricks and everything you try and do to suit, so I just changed slightly. You have little tricks to match anything, I guess to be a good fighter you have to have an answer for every problem, and I thought I did."

Jackson was busted open from a headbutt in the sixth round and Toussaint thought the fight may have been called off as blood spilled from the Kiwi's forehead.

The doctor cleared Jackson to continue and the pair battled on, with Toussaint's new white fight shorts looking more red with every round as he edged towards a new belt with an impressed Duco promoter Dean Lonergan watching on.

Jackson entered Toussaint's dressing room after the fight to congratulate the new champion, telling the rising star "you've got a big future".

Now Toussaint will turn his attention to defending his Australian title in Canberra in August as he moves one step closer to the ultimate goal - a world championship shot.
