We told you last week that Chisholm couple Matt and Emma Keen were expecting identical girl triplets, due to be delivered in two to four weeks.
But after a check-up at the Canberra Hospital on Sunday, Emma was told she was "not going anywhere" and the triplets - Aleisha, Maddilyn and Eloise were born via caesarean on Sunday at 32 weeks.
Matt's mum Jenny said medical staff were keeping a closest eye on the smallest of the triplets, Maddilyn, and decided it was safer to deliver the special bubs sooner rather than later.
Aleisha was first to arrive at 1.56pm, weighing 1.76 kilograms and 39.5cm in length.
Second to make her appearance, two minutes later, was Maddilyn weighing 1.3kg and 37cm in length.
And baby number three was Eloise who arrived at 1.59pm weighing 1.65kg and 41cm in length.
Jenny said mum and bubs were doing well. The girls join their siblings, Patrick, 11; Laura, seven, and Lily, five.
The babies are expected to stay in hospital for six to eight weeks.
The chances of having identical triplets are put at anywhere between one in 60,000 to one in 200 million pregnancies.
Something must be in the water, however. A Townsville mother also gave birth to identical girl triplets at 32 weeks on March 19. Media reports put the chances of identical triplets at one in 300,000 pregnancies.
The Canberra community, meanwhile, has responded magnificently to helping the Keen family, whose finances have been stretched by the sudden increase in their family. People have offered plenty of gifts for the babies and financial assistance for the family, who have been overwhelmed by the support, passing on their sincere thanks.
