It was the prize for winning a juggling competition that Socceroos legend Tim Cahill had run with Matildas' players Kyah Simon and Ellie Carpenter, raising awareness for his Tim Cahill Ambitions Tour.
"I'd like to let you know that you're going to be bringing the match ball out for the next game of the Socceroos," Cahill told the speechless high school student.
"This is what I feel like when I score a goal, so this is your goal mate, you deserve to own the moment and you're going to own it on Thursday night and it's pretty awesome."
"I love seeing this sort of stuff and we will never forget," Cahill continued.
On David's Facebook page, he wrote, "thank you everyone at the assembly, the support was amazing and made me feel so happy and bought me to tears, thank you for the support, couldn't of done it without the school and everyone, thank you."
Cahill will join Canberra product Tom Rogic, along with returning captain Mile Jedinak as drawcards for the Canberra Stadium clash.
Kick off is at 8pm at GIO Stadium. Gates open 6.30pm.
