Canberra's cafe and art history so easily buried

"Toucan Lane coffee house" the screenprinted poster read. "Located behind Smith's Bookshop – enter through laneway". This discovery at Megalo was the first I'd heard of the place. But there it was: 1984, a cafe in Civic's Melbourne Building laneway that boasted bands, poetry, and stayed open until 1am on a school night.
