The devil in the detail of the Mr Fluffy plan

For the owner/occupiers of the territory's 1021 Mr Fluffy homes, the release on Tuesday of the ACT government's "preferred" buyback and demolition program must have had all the appearance of the metaphorical double-edged sword. The document prepared by the Asbestos Response Taskforce offered the prospect of an end to months of uncertainty and a way forward, however painful. But many would have had an inkling or a suspicion that no matter how the asbestos pill was sugar-coated with offers of emergency assistance, fee waivers, and other financial legs-up, a bitter aftertaste would still be apparent to those forced to swallow it. So it has proved.
