ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher confirmed on Tuesday the Government would act to ensure a clean-up took place
"There's an issue with both the childcare centre and the Ainslie shops and there has to be a solution there," Ms Gallagher said.
"I've asked the taskforce once all of this settles down they bring in the owner of the Ainslie shops and talk about what the plan is there, because we can't allow that to continue."
The report of the Long Term Management of Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation in Canberra Homes, issued by the government on Tuesday, stated that a demolition of homes remained the only enduring solution to the problem.
"Any option short of demolition carries with it an ongoing management obligation and an unresolved risk," it said.
Ms Gallagher said she understood the high level of public interest in the future of the shops but it was too early to speculate on how it would be impacted by the removal process.
Ms Gallagher's office also stated that the commercial remediation was not in the scope of Tuesday's $1billion Commonwealth concessional loan.
ACT Work Safety Commissioner Mark McCabe placed a prohibition notice on two businesses operating above Edgar's Inn in March following concerns of a leak in the roof. Mr Fluffy was pumped into that part of the roof space in the 1970s when it was allegedly operating as a brothel. The area has never been cleaned of amosite insulation.
The prohibition notices remains in force.
