Australia off to a futile gesture of war in Iraq

Australian men and women are again off to a theatre of war, for a cause we may believe to be pure but which has little chance of succeeding. Western intervention, with very token support by some neighbours, has little chance of winning ground on the terrain, in Iraq the immediate site of the conflict, or in Syria, into which, by mission creep, the war will inevitably spread, or in the broader region.
