The boy's family had been camping in the island's south-west on Thursday night when a dingo entered their campervan and grabbed the toddler by the neck and dragged him into the bush, paramedic Ben Du Toit said.
"The child's parents were woken by their son's cries, which were becoming more distant," he said.
"The dad got out of the campervan to investigate and found the dingo dragging the toddler away from the campervan.
"They also spotted several other dingoes in the area and near the vicinity, and he immediately ran up and grabbed his son and chased some of the dingoes off."
Mr Du Toit said he met the family at the Eurong Beach Resort, and treated the 14-month-old boy for two deep cuts to the back of his neck, as well as minor cuts to the back of his head.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter arrived at the island at 12.40am and flew the boy to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
Fraser Island is a popular holiday destination, but Mr Du Toit said it was important to avoid dingoes.
"As far as dingoes are concerned, just stay well clear of them, keep all food and food sources well locked up and away from dingoes, and never walk alone, always walk in groups," he said.
