Their success so far on House Rules already has Gundaroo couple Alex and Katie Middlemiss thinking about the future.
Katie, a newly qualified midwife, is even considering a career change into interior design, thrilled by how well her concepts are being received on the Prime7 renovation show.
"We could not have expected this at any point," Katie said on Friday. "To be up the top with the best of them has been a real surprise. A big confidence boost. I didn't imagine how much I would enjoy it."
Alex said he was also blown away by the positive comments they had received from the House Rules judges.
This week, the teams have been renovating the home of Perth surfing sisters Mikaela and Eliza. It is a renovation of the family home for their mum Kristen, a nurse. The home, in beautiful Margaret River bushland, has never been completely finished.
"Mum has worked tirelessly our entire lives to give us everything we could possibly want and more," Mikaela said.
"She's sacrificed so much for our surfing and any time we needed support or guidance, she has been there."
Alex, an officer with the Australian Federal Police, said it was emotional working on the house for the girls and their mother.
"The girls hit us right in the bread basket. They love their mum and we can't wait to meet her, she sounds like the most amazing person," he said.
"This house took everything to a whole new level."
The couple says the show had just consolidated their already-strong relationship.
"I was worried before we went on that we might bicker, but we've never been so close," Alex said.
Katie agreed. "When one of us is having a bad day, the other is there to back them up," she said.
And they are also adjusting to their newfound fame.
"Being recognised is surreal, definitely," Alex said.
"Even when you're watching yourself on TV, you think you're just watching a video, that it's not on everyone else's TV as well."
- The next House Rules reveal is on Prime7 on Sunday at 7pm.
